The story behind our CUB mascots – Betty & Bill
THE CHICKEN STORY
Many years ago, our current member, Roger Barton, and a previous member, Paul Walker, and his girlfriend, Aimee, would go Corvette Camping along with a number of other mentally questionable members. For some reason, Paul and Aimee would bring a rubber chicken named Chicken to the event (they felt he was part of the “family”.)????? Then, regrettably, one night at one of their campfires, no one was paying attention to Chicken, he became engrossed in the flames, got too close to the fire, and his beak melted off. Chicken then, somehow, lost his way from the Corvette crowd.
But behold! A new rubber chicken was given to the club who was named Bill after Chicken lost his. So new Chicken Bill took over and became the club Mascot in memory of just Chicken.
At a Christmas Party at the Bellingham Country Club, during the gift exchange getting to it. Thank you for your support!!!! ie, someone wrapped Chicken Bill up as a gift! The lucky winner was a very good sport and, during cruises, he would tie Chicken Bill to the back of his Corvette so Chicken Bill could see the sights.
At a party, our then El Presidente, Ron Sharik, revealed he had found a pink (plastic) Corvette for Chicken Bill. Lookin’ cool, Chicken Bill took a holiday, ran off and became married to “Betty Chickette”. Upon news of the wedding, Kay Reddell made very upscale clothing for the newly married couple to be “styling” for their important, upcoming Corvette occasions. Mr. & Mrs. Bill now needed a fancier Corvette and Behold Again! Our current Presidential Family, the Gardners, contributed a beautiful, blue 2017 Corvette coop, er….coupe!
We are now proud to present Chicken Bill and Betty Chickette to their standing of “Mascots to the Corvettes Unlimited Club of Bellingham.”
At this time, neither hold a valid Washington State Driver’s license and will require a sponsor(s) for transportation to the frolicking-good times held by the Club. Any volunteer(s) would be most appreciated. We are attaching a sign-up sheet for your convenience, and please don’t trip over each other.
